Cut PC Power Use and Expense

A free program called Edison, from Verdiem, is claimed to reduce PC energy use and save up to $95  for each one, depending on local power costs and computer type. The average PC generates 1000 pounds of CO2 a year and wastes 80% of its energy. With a billion PCs in use worldwide and a projected quadrupling, this adds up. Users set parameters and can compare settings to see the savings in money and greenhouse gas emissions. The program tracks estimated savings of money, energy and CO2. Edison is for individual PC users running Windows XP or Vista; a similar Verdiem product, Surveyor, is for networked computers in office settings.
