According to the site, “If just half of drivers practiced moderate levels of EcoDriving, CO2 emissions could be reduced annually by the equivalent of heating and powering 8.5 million households.” Calculators show savings for individuals and states, and there’s a video-game commute to try out new skills. Governments can offer the free posters and an eco-drivers manual provided on the site to employees and citizens. California and Colorado have signed up, and other states and cities can as well. One tip: In hot weather, above 40 mph close the windows and use the A/C, but at slower speeds the breeze is more fuel efficient.
Colorado Governor Ritter incorporated the Eco-Driving program in the state’s first Climate Change action plan in 2007, saying, “The more information that is available to consumers to make these decisions, the more change we can expect to see.”
