According to researchers from the University of Cincinnati, one in three public schools in the US are in air pollution danger zones. Unplanned sprawl resulting in schools' proximity to heavy traffic was the main cause of the putrid air, and according to the researchers, proper city planning could prevent future risks.
Right now, the researchers urge installations of air filtration systems for American schools with dangerous air pollution levels. The team surveyed 8,800 schools with 6 million children, according to healthNews, a UC publicaiton, and found 30% were at risk for asthma and other long term respiratory complications.
