Capitol Gets First Self Service Bike Program

The District of Columbia in Maryland's Department of Transportation and Clear Channel Outdoor will provide 100 bikes in the US's first public self-service bicycle rental program. For $40 a year, subscribers are issued a user card able to unlock the specifically designed SmartBike bicycles from 10 stations around the business district for three hours at a time. A crew travels between stations for repairs and services the fleet. Clear Channel Outdoor operates similar and larger public bicycle programs in Scandinavia, Spain and France.
